AI Factory Austria strengthens collaboration with the University of Vienna

AI Factory Austria AI:AT continues to expand its role as a bridge between research and practical application. Recent engagements with the University of Vienna highlight how close collaboration across the ecosystem is supporting the next generation of AI innovation in Austria.

Empowering early-stage innovation at the u:seed Demo Day 2026

At this year’s u:seed Demo Day at the University of Vienna, early-stage teams presented the results of six months of intensive work – transforming initial ideas into validated venture concepts.

The programme combines mentorship, targeted training and prototype funding to support founders in refining their solutions and preparing for investor-ready pitches. The showcased projects reflected a strong interdisciplinary approach, spanning quantum technologies, sustainability, healthcare and AI applications across multiple industries.

AI:AT was part of the programme through a panel discussion featuring COO Sasa Radic, moderated by Laura M. Pana, Liaison Officer of the University of Vienna to AI Factory Austria. The discussion highlighted how both institutions are joining forces to empower emerging innovators – connecting academic excellence with AI expertise, engineering capabilities and venture-building support.

Strengthening collaboration at the AI:AT hub

Building on this momentum, AI:AT welcomed a delegation from the University of Vienna to its hub Solaris at St Marx for a strategic exchange on deepening collaboration.

Participants included Nikolaus Hautsch, Vice-Rector for Infrastructure at the University of Vienna, Christoph Dellago, Lucas Zinner and Laura M. Pana. The discussions focused on the next steps to further align research excellence with practical implementation.

The exchange reinforced a key insight: Austria has a strong and internationally competitive research base in AI. The central challenge now is to systematically translate this strength into real-world impact.

Connecting research, infrastructure and application

This is precisely where AI Factory Austria positions itself – as a connector between research and application, an enabler of implementation, and an orchestrator of a growing AI ecosystem.

By linking academic institutions, industry, startups and public sector actors, AI:AT creates the conditions for innovation to move beyond the lab and into practice.

As both engagements demonstrate, meaningful progress in AI does not happen in isolation. It emerges through collaboration – when scientific excellence meets concrete use cases, supported by the right infrastructure and ecosystem.

AI:AT will continue to expand these collaborations and support the development of impactful AI solutions across Austria and Europe.
