At the third meetup hosted by AI Austria at the University of Innsbruck, researchers, students, entrepreneurs, and AI enthusiasts from across Western Austria came together to discuss the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence.
The event series, initiated by Melanie Balaz (AI Austria), deliberately places a strong technical and scientific focus at its core, creating an important platform for AI discourse in Western Austria. Beyond the presentations, the meetup provided ample opportunity for exchange, networking, and discussions about the future of AI.
The evening was hosted by Julian Just (AI:AT), who moderated the discussions and brought together perspectives from research, industry, and practical application.
One of the evening’s highlights was Lukas Huber’s talk on AI sovereignty and technological independence in Europe. The discussion emphasized that sovereignty goes far beyond local infrastructure or operating proprietary systems — at its core, it is about freedom of choice, openness, and strategic independence.
Another impactful contribution came from Nadja Gruber, who presented on the use of AI in the detection of diseases in newborns. The research findings, already being applied in collaboration with the University Hospital Innsbruck, demonstrated how AI-driven research can generate real societal impact.
The meetup also underscored the shared mission of AI Austria and AI:AT to advance responsible AI development and strengthen collaboration between industry, academia, and the broader community throughout Austria.
